LASKFAR VORTOK
Born in Mérida, Mexico and based in L.A, video artist and producer Laskfar Vortok has put together several artistic projects under this name, from producing the visual show for Erykah Badu's "Unfollow Me" tour with Strangeloop Studios to releasing his EP "Erbsat Esrhosc" on Aura T-09 and Trickfinger's label, EVAR. The release marks his first record on the label.
Working under the alias of Laskfar Vortok since 2007, which derived from the now-defunct duo project Naboa and its corresponding net-label, naboamusic, his recent video work includes directing the video for "April Two 11" by Speed Dealer Moms on EVAR in 2021, and "After After Ever" by Daedeuls on Dome of Doom in 2022. His self-released album "The Dispossessed" in 2016 stems from the speculative and science fiction stories written by American author Ursula K. LeGuin, while his collaboration with Thundercat on the single "Independence Vey" saw Laskfar Vortok on synths, production and pattern arrangement. Performances at events in Berlin and L.A, like Datacide, RUN and Baseck's "ERISFALL/EXCEL" release party have also cropped up along the way.
This year, Laskfar Vortok continues to work on his feature film "Criminalism", which began in 2008. Living in L.A, he remains perplexed and curious about his city, rattled by the car culture and sense of isolation that can infect those living there. But the multicultural complexities of the city continue to fascinate and inspire him too, with its hyperactivity and chaotic undercurrents, many of which he interprets and channels his own way on "Erbsat Esrhosc."
