LIZA AIKIN & MONOLOG
Two key figures of Berlin’s experimental techno scene, Liza Aikin and Monolog fuse contrasting approaches and a wealth of unique musical experiences. It’s a mind-meld that pushes both producers out of their comfort zone, allowing them to explore new territories and extremities in sound design, composition and emotion.
Liza Aikin’s first release came in 2017. With a decade of DJing already behind her, Aikin’s ability to craft compelling narratives while ranging freely between styles and tones behind the decks has translated into her production style. In a relatively short period of time, she’s crafted a distinctive and cinematic brand of techno, built from lithe, organic textures, classic hardware manipulation and an experimental approach to field recordings, layered into dark and hypnotic arrangements. Her music has appeared on imprints such as Bas Mooy’s iconic Mord, Utrecht’s Obscuur and most recently on the 10-year anniversary release of Gegen, one of Berlin’s most influential queer techno nights, where Aikin regularly DJ’s.
With over two decades of experience and 50 releases under his belt, Mads Lindgren’s owes his endurance to an untiring drive to push his own limits. Operating under the Monolog alias since 1999, he’s appeared on labels like Murder channel, Ad Noiseam, Hymen, Arboretum, Ohm resistance, Instruments of Discipline, Detroit Underground and Tender, and his live act has been toured worldwide. Pulling together a diverse and unusual range of experiences in genres like metal, noise, jazz and DnB, Monolog is known for an involved production process, pushing technological boundaries to reach aesthetic and sonic extremes. His music over recent years is as harsh and unrelenting as ever, but there’s an unrivalled poise to be found in its dense, intricate layers.
Sharing a Berlin studio together for five years before they started working together, Aikin and Monolog’s work together is a testament to the power of collaboration to elevate creative and technical processes. Two styles collide to create something unlike either, the results are explosive, raw and out-of-the-box.
