Combining finely tuned production skills, an adventurous approach and a deep-rooted love for the harder edges of techno, NARA makes tense, sometimes terrifying music with a calm precision. In just a few years the Italian producer and DJ has crafted a sonic signature that steers clear of nostalgia and sterility, drawing on the raw materials and energy of early rave music to sculpt imaginative new shapes.

NARA made her first contact with underground dance music early. Her upbringing in the city of Pisa is a familiar story of teenage boredom and rebellion–as she explains: ‘There’s nothing to do where I’m from, except illegal raves. I discovered dance music just as I was starting to form my first ideas about the world and about politics. I was angry and looking for an outlet.’ Immersing herself into a scene soundtracked by hardcore and techno, NARA’s first experiments with analog equipment began at the age 14, on the drum machine of a friend who used to play on the illegal circuit.

Relocating to London in 2015 to study audio engineering, NARA soaked up the sound of her surroundings, embracing the capital’s experimental, multi-genre club music landscape and infusing her sound with touches of breaks and DnB. Her first entry into the London scene came through HUB16 in Dalston, a studio and community space where she honed her production skills.

At HUB16 NARA’s productions were first noticed and passed on to London label Super Kitchen, who hosted the producer’s first singles, a collaboration with Manuka Honey called ‘Siren Spell’, and her debut EP, the 7-track ‘There Is No Sky.’ These releases put her on the radar of taste-making DJ and SZNS7N label-boss LCY, who put out her 2020 follow-up ‘Ipse Dixit’, an EP that saw NARA move further into free-form club territory. NARA’s growing discography now ranges from ambient to hard techno via jagged experimental club, and includes appearances on the Bogota, Colombia based-label Putivuelta, and a 2021 collaborative EP with MarcelDune for Childsplay.

Having established herself as a fresh voice in London’s rapidly mutating club scene, NARA lands on LA’s Evar Records with an already distinctive take on hard-edged industrial dance music, packed with sharp left turns and delivered with a fierce, controlled intensity.
