FORCE PLACEMENT
Force Placement is the DJ and production alias of L.A. native Jason James, who has released all moods of house, techno, IDM, and outsider electronics for labels including 100% Silk, Private Selection, Clave House, Bank NYC, Lost Soul Enterprises, and EVAR Records. His DJ sets and high-energy live P.A.s find him mood-shifting between Chicago and Detroit heaters, mind-bending acid techno, dark analog electro, and twisted chill-out room sounds – always with a mysterious, subversive edge. This fluency has led him to residencies with two of L.A’s most acclaimed party crews: Into the Woods and The Black Lodge.
James’ journey into the corners of electronic music started at age 12, when he first heard Aphex Twin and The Chemical Brothers on local indie rock radio station KROQ. Trained as a jazz drummer, he ultimately found the rhythmic complexity and subversive attitude he craved within drum ‘n’ bass, breakcore, experimental electronics and noise. James is also inspired by the minimalist rhythm tracks of Chicago’s Trax and Prescription Records, the Berlin-Detroit axis, and the sampling techniques and warm textures of ‘90s hip-hop producers like Pete Rock and DJ Premier, and has found an outlet for the emotions of darker times in his harsh noise project Nu Sire and drumming for local punk bands like Ruined Age and Body Fluid. At the midheaven between the extremes of light and dark, hard and soft, is where you’ll find Force Placement, embarking on a new adventure in sound.
