ISABELLA
Providence-based artist and producer Isabella defies expectations with each release, dishing out nosebleed Teknival-style bangers, trance excursions, ambient abstractions, and DIY punk-minded hardware techno in equal measure for equally eclectic labels like Peder Mannerfelt Produktion, Börft, Mama Told Ya and forthcoming on Herrensauna. Of a piece with compatriots like Via App, JASSS, E-Saggila, and NYC’s BANK records, she’s at once tapped into the US punk-techno underground and connected to a contemporary school of expansive experimentalisms that seeks to break with established musical styles. With inspirations as diverse as Scorn, Beatriz Ferreyra and Coil, this hardware goddess is absolutely unpredictable stylistically, though an electric current of ominous, psychedelic industrialisms runs through her music like an oxide river.
